But it was the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis, Missouri, where he made it famous. This story has so many twists and turns and it seems to be a tall tale. As everything is big in Texas, this is a Whopper (pun intended), and articles in the LA Times (with the headline “Want Lies With That?”) and Texas Monthly seriously question this claim.

Oklahoma has its own claim to the hamburger’s origin. On the 4th of July, 1891, Oscar Weber Bilby built an iron grill at his ranch near the community of Bowden, Oklahoma.

First, he took some ground beef and mixed it with egg batter and fried it….but he couldn’t get any customers to eat it. So he quit the egg batter and just mixed the meat with a little flour to hold it together.

LOVE!! We were so tired of ice trays, and having an ice maker installed into our fridge/freezer unit was prohibitively expensive. We took a chance on this after looking at probably dozens of options. We've had it for 5 months now and it's perfect! Pros: It keeps the ice cold so it's ready all day whenever we need it. It's easy to fill with water, it fits on our counter under the top cabinets with no issues. We've only had to run the cleaning function about once a month, which since we keep it on and running is a great balance. It's easy to drop the ice bucket into the freezer and hit clean, wait 15 min, drain, replace ice bucket and refill. Simple and quick! Cons: first thing in the morning the ice is of a lower volume due to overnight melt, but at least still 1/2 to 2/3 full. The only place to keep the included scoop is on top of the machine, there's no slot for it to be kept in, which is not optimal but works. Since we run it as 'always on' it sometimes (about once every 2 weeks or so) needs to be reset - it'll lock up and you have to poke the power button gently a couple times to get it going again. Unfortunately, this purchase has been nothing but a headache. I’m about two weeks since this was delivered and I haven’t been able to use it because the pump doesn’t work. I’ve reached out to the company numerous times and at this point they have not been very helpful in resolving the problem.
